She's known as Bayou La Batre's hurricane doctor and could soon be the next U.S. Surgeon General.
Doctor Regina Benjamin is well known to our viewers. She runs the rural health clinic on Tapia Lane. Dr. Benjamin lost her business in hurricane Katrina but still managed to doctor the sick. She's the recipient of many awards including the MacArthur "Genius" Award.
Now, she is in the running to be the county's top doctor. "I am honored and I am humbled to be nominated as United States Surgeon General. This is the physicians dream but for me it's more than just a job. So thank you Mister President for having the confidence in me and if confirmed, I promise to give you and the American people my best."
We leaned late today that we won't be able to do any interview with Dr. Benjamin until after the confirmation hearing by the Senate. That process might not happen for at least 6 weeks.
