Alabama Might Owe You Interest On Your Tax Refund

State law requires the Alabama Department of Revenue to mail all state income tax refunds by Wednesday or pay interest on them.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama and Georgia are scrambling to
get tax refunds issued before they have to pay interest on them.

Both states have laws requiring them to pay interest to
taxpayers who filed by the April 15 deadline but don't get their
refunds within 90 days. That deadline is Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Georgia Department of Revenue says it
appears some interest may have to be paid. But Alabama Revenue
Commissioner Tim Russell says his department is rushing to get all
refunds issued by Wednesday and avoid interest.
