The Escambia County Sheriff's Office says it’s making progress in the investigation into the death of a beloved Beulah couple. Sheriff David Morgan says they have van used in the home invasion of Byrd and Melanie billings. The first images in the video are pictures of the van in question taken by a member of the sheriff's office. In a news conference held today, Saturday, July 11, 2009, Morgan says the van has led them to two persons of interest in the case. They are being questioned by investigators. He says these two are not suspects at this time and they haven't been charged with anything. Detectives said Friday that they believed three people were involved in the deaths of the billings. Morgan says finding the van was a major break in the case.
“Once we had located the van, developed the address where the van had been registered to interviews with associated friends and family led us to two persons of interest,” says Morgan. The victims were a well known couple in the area who had as many as 16 children, many with special needs. Morgan says the children are with family members in an undisclosed location. He says one of the persons of interest is related to the owner of the van they found.
