Lieutenant Woody McVay is considered by his family a long lost hero of World War II. He was killed in action over the island of Saipan in 1944. Military officials say he was buried by locals there and eventually re-buried as an unknown in a military cemetery in the Philippines. After painstaking work by his family and researchers, McVay’s remains finally returned home Friday, July 10, 2009. His body was greeted by family members and members of the Navy. He’ll be buried Monday in his hometown of Mobile.
