Young engineers in Mobile were getting a buzz today, Thursday, July 9th 2009. Kids in the "Engaging Youth in Engineering" day camp were building buzzer-alarms for their project today. The goal was to create a small alarm system to let a farmer know when his animals were out of food. The camp is run by the Mobile Area Education Foundation and held, in part, at the Exploreum downtown. Organizers say the kids get good problem solving skills.

“Think critically, problem solve, communicate clearly, work in a team, and those are all the types of skills they get as well as our middle school and high school eye programs,” says program director Susan Pruet.

These fourth and fifth graders come from schools that feed into Davidson High School. Pruet says the EYE Camp helps encourage kids to become engineers. For more information, and to see a story we did on the camp last year, click here.
