COVINGTON, La. (AP) - An Alabama woman has been arrested on
allegations of sneaking hacksaw blades into the St. Tammany Parish
Jail, leading to the escape of four inmates.
Sheriff Jack Strain says Claudia Buras, of Irvington, Ala.,
surrendered late Monday and was booked on charges of introducing
contraband into a jail and assisting escape. The felony counts
carry up to 10 years in prison. Buras is free after posting
$100,000 bond.
Buras is the ex-wife of Eric Buras, one of the four prisoners
who broke out of the jail on June 18. Strain says she had visited
him at the jail on June 7.
After the escape, investigators recovered three blades, which
were exchanged by hiding them in the spine of a Bible. Buras and
two other inmates were caught shortly after the escape. The fourth
was caught on June 21.
