Federal Charges Against Suspected Killer

The case against a 24 year old suspected killer is getting bigger.

A federal warrant signed Wednesday reveals new details about the hours leading up to a shooting spree.

According to the warrant, William Kidd stole a pick-up truck from a waste treatment facility in Prichard, ordering the truck's owner to strip down to his underwear and threatening to "blow (the victim's) brains out."

"We're considering William Kidd armed and dangerous," says Assistant Police Chief Jimmie Gardner, who admits investigators have been one step behind Kidd all week.

"We're following all leads as they come in," said Gardner. "The leads thus far have fallen short."

Prichard police believe Kidd used the stolen truck during at least three shootings in the past week.

The first shooting happened Thursday at a home on North Joseph Street. William "Red" Hampton, 20, was found dead in the front yard. Three days later, police say Kidd returned to the same house and fired shots at Hampton's family. Kidd is also accused in a shooting Sunday evening at a house on Atmore Avenue.

Investigators thought they were closing in on the suspect Tuesday when they received a tip he was at a home in Mobile, but when police arrived Kidd was already gone.
