MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Mobile officials believe they rank No. 2 -
in population in Alabama.
They said they believe recent annexations have brought in enough
new residents to bypass Montgomery's population.
Now they just need to get the U.S. government to agree with
them.
The city claims that more than 206,000 people live in Mobile. A
new U.S. Census Bureau estimate says the population is an estimated
191,000. Census estimates show Birmingham with about 229,000
people, and Montgomery with about 202,000.
Mobile fell from No. 2 in the state to No. 3 in 2001.
