A former Mobile County Sheriff's deputy has something to brag about. Billy McGill says he has the most restored police vehicles in the world. At 21 vehicles from Mobile Police and County Sheriff it's tough to argue. His collection was on display July 4th, 2009 at Battleship Park. McGill talks about his collection:
“I had kept an old siren off of a car from the 1960's and polished it up one day and wanted to do a police car the way I had remembered them. Then I started researching and getting all the old equipment and I was so intrigued I was so impressed I did another one.
The city cars start in 1962 from the time that we faded out the blacks and went to blue and whites [for car paint jobs]. Nobody has them. I’ve been on the internet searching them, some of their departments have might have 6, I have the world's largest collection, I've checked with Japan got on the internet, they just don't have them,” says McGill.
