An Atlanta, Georgia man fears his friend is one of two people killed in Wednesday afternoon's fiery accident in Loxley.
Alabama State Troopers said the two were killed when two tractor trailers collided.
One was hauling cars, another an empty container.
Troopers have not released the names of those killed.
But Larry Garner, who was also hauling cars, said he saw the accident and is afraid his friend, who was driving the truck hauling cars, was killed.
Garner said, "We had just got done eating lunch down at Marietta, Florida, filling up the trucks."
As for the accident, Garner said, "The container truck blew a tire, came across the median, ran into the other truck head on, and burst into flames."
Assistant Chief Robert Wright with the Loxley Fire Department said, "We had a couple of different explosions due to the cars that were on top of the trailers."
Alabama State Trooper Joe Piggott said, "One of the tractor trailers was travelling east, and, for some unknown reason, crossed over the median, went into the westbound lane, and collided head on with another tractor trailer."
When asked if he felt helpless, Garner said, "Yeah. By the time I got back there, there was nothing we could do. Other people stopped. (They) couldn't get over there because of the flames."
Garner said he planned to spend the night here in Mobile before hauling his load of cars to San Antonio.
But, as Garner saw today, he knows plans can change.
Garner said, "We (he and his friend) just had been talking about where we're going to spend the night at."
Garner said his friend is from Ohio and has a wife and two children.
