For the fourth time in less than nine days, law enforcement agencies in Baldwin County are investigating a homicide. The latest murder happened Thursday night on Truck Route 17 in rural Baldwin County near the Gateswood community. A group of hunters returning from the woods found the body of a 54-year old man near a washed out bridge on Truck Route 17, about eight miles east of Highway 59.
"It's all hunting land there, it's very remote, there are many possibilities with this case, at this point we don't believe it's a suicide, which leads us to homicide," says Major Anthony Lowery with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators have identified the body as William Grunden of Pensacola.
"It just amazed me that there'd be anything like this out in this neck of the woods," says Montie Miller. Miller owns a cabinet shop in the area. "It's so desolate, you hardly ever see any cars out here except during hunting season. It concerns me greatly that this would happen in the middle of nowhere. It's very strange."
A backwoods mystery people here hope to solve soon.
