Three Children Killed In House Fire

1:56 p.m.
- Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer says fire marshals have not determined the cause or origin of the fire. Investigators believe a heater started the fire, but the evidence is inconclusive.

12:58 p.m.
- Students at Fruitdale School released baloons into the air in honor of their classmates who were killed in the fire.

12:46 p.m.
- Neighbor tells News 5 that David Nelson tries to save his children, but the fire engulfed the house so fast that he couldn't get too them.
- Investigators believe a heater may have caused the fire.
- Counselors are at Fruitdale School to meet with grieving classmates

- The parents' names are David and Virginia Nelson.

8:18 a.m.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says three children between the ages of 8 and 12 died early this morning in a house fire.

The fire broke out around 3 o'clock on John Johnston Road in the Charity Chapel community near the Mobile County/Washington County line. The parents and one other child were able to escape. The children who died were asleep upstairs.

Fire crews from Citronelle, Charity Chapel and McIntosh were among those fighting the fire.
