Alabama Senator Wants You To Read Stimulus Bill

»  Comments | Post a Comment

One Alabama Senator wants Americans to know what spending is listed in the President's stimulus package. Republican Senator Jeff Sessions sent out a statement about the stimulus bill. Here is his full announcement:

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) today published the full text of the massive, 434-page stimulus bill on his Senate website, giving the American people an opportunity to inspect firsthand how Congress intends to spend up to $900 billion of their taxpayer dollars.
Senate leaders have been reluctant to officially release the actual text of the legislation. The draft, for example, is not available on the Senate’s primary web site or on the site operated by the Library of Congress, where pending legislation is typically posted.
Although the idea of a stimulus package has been discussed by congressional leaders in the media for weeks, a draft first became available in the Senate yesterday.
Sessions, a critic of the size and scope of the stimulus spending plan, said it was important that the American people have access to the document.

“This massive spending bill—which will likely exceed $900 billion by the time the Senate takes a vote—has been kept away from the public eye in order to limit scrutiny,” Sessions said. “This legislation will be the largest single expenditure in the history of our government. The American people will ultimately pay the tab, so the public deserves to know exactly what the bill contains.”
