BELLFLOWER, Calif. (AP) - Doctors say octuplets born in a
Southern California hospital are breathing on their own and doing
"very well."
Neonatologist Mandhir Gupta tells ABC two of the eight babies
delivered yesterday were initially put on ventilators, but have
since had the tubes removed.
Three of the babies are getting oxygen, but Gupta says they are
breathing on their own. Doctors are also encouraged that they were
able to take the smallest of the infants -- a boy weighing just 1
pound, 8 ounces -- off his ventilator. Gupta this morning describes
him as "very feisty."
The six boys and two girls will probably stay in the hospital
for at least two months. Their mother should be released in a week.
