TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried will
reportedly receive a full buyout of his contract.
The Birmingham News reported Tuesday that Gottfried will get 29
monthly payments of some $75,000 each for a total of more than $2
million. The former Crimson Tide player resigned Monday midway
through his 11th season.
An Alabama spokesman said Tuesday morning that he couldn't
immediately confirm the buyout information.
If Gottfried finds another job, his buyout will be decreased by
the amount of his new salary.
Assistant Philip Pearson is serving as interim coach for the
rest of the season.
The coaches mentioned as potential candidates to replace
Gottfried include Minnesota's Tubby Smith, Virginia Commonwealth's
Anthony Grant, Missouri's Mike Anderson and UAB's Mike Davis.
The Tide visits Arkansas Thursday night.
