Customers Help Catch Shoplifting Suspect

Mobile police say Sidney Hall tried to leave a local convenience store without paying for some merchandise, but he has stopped by other customers and restrained until police arrived.

A shoplifting suspect got more than he bargained when he tried to rip off a local convenience store.

Mobile police say Sidney Hall walked into the Summit Gas Station at 2001 Airport Boulevard around 11:30 Monday night, stuck some merchandise under his shirt and tried to walk out without paying.

Police say Hall physically assaulted a store employee who tried stop him from stealing the items. But he didn't get away thanks to some good Samaritans. Several customers stopped Hall and restrained him until police arrived.

Hall is charged with robbery.
