Alabama Watersheds On The Web

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Statistics on the 707 watersheds in
Alabama are now available online, providing a look at water quality
issues that officials say are vital in forming a state water
policy.
The webpage data and maps, announced Tuesday at a legislative
water policy committee meeting, were done by the state's
Information Services Division for the Alabama Soil and Water
Conservation Committee (ASWCC).
Committee member J.O. Norris of Elmore County, who worked on the
project, said about 300 maps will be on the site by spring,
detailing each county. At present, Morgan County's map is the only
one posted.
The watershed assessment is required by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency every five years.
