SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The embattled governor of Illinois is
on a television blitz, instead of appearing at his impeachment
trial.
And Rod Blagojevich has revealed that he
almost named Oprah Winfrey to fill the Senate seat once held by
Barack Obama.
It's that seat that federal prosecutors allege he tried to sell
to the highest bidder.
Blagojevich tells ABC he decided that appointing Winfrey might
look too gimmicky and the talk show host probably wouldn't accept.
In the end, he named former Illinois attorney general Roland
Burris.
The governor again proclaimed his innocence, declaring on "Good
Morning America" that he "did nothing wrong" and that he "would
have resigned" if he did.
Blagojevich will later appear live on "The View" and "Larry
King Live." An interview he did earlier with NBC's "Today" show
aired this morning.
