The Escambia County Sheriff's Office is looking for a counterfeit cop.

Deputies say he pulled a teenage girl over around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of West Nine Mile Road and Beulah Road. He asked the girl to get out of the vehicle, but she refused because his uniform did not look like a normal law enforcement uniform and he did not identify himself.

When the teenager asked why she was pulled over, the man started laughing. After he asked a few questions, the man walked to the back of her car, acted like he was checking the license plate, then came back and told her "You're free to go. Somebody must have been playing a prank on you."

According to the Sheriff's Office, the suspect is described as a white male, 6'2", with dark bushy hair, a stocky build and a mole under his left eye.

The counterfeit cop's car is described as a late model, white Toyota Camry with blue/purple lights on the dashboard and the word "Sheriff" in small green letters on the driver's door.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Escambia County Sheriff's Office at 850.436.9620 or Crime Stoppers at 850.433.STOP.

Impersonating a police officer is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
