Training that can save your life!

On Saturday, February 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the University of South Alabama Baldwin County will host Rape Aggression Defense Training. Training will be held at USA Baldwin County’s Classroom Complex, corner of St. James and Summit Streets in downtown Fairhope. In order to receive a certificate of completion, participants must attend the full day. The certificate allows you to re-take the R.A.D. Training course for free at any time and any location. The cost to attend is $25 for the general public and $15 for USA Students with proof of enrollment.

The Rape Aggression Defense Training (R.A.D.) is a comprehensive, women’s only course that begins
with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, and then progresses on to the basics of hands-on
defense training. Because the class emphasizes awareness as well as self-defense, it addresses the threat from both
a stranger and an acquaintance. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques suitable for
women of all ages and abilities.

Instructor Dr. Phillip Norrell, is an Assistant Professor in Health, Physical Education and Leisure Studies
at the University of South Alabama. He is also a black belt in martial arts and a certified R.A.D. trainer.

R.A.D. Training is presented by University of South Alabama Baldwin County, Violence Prevention
Alliance and Health, Physical Education and Leisure Studies Department.

“The course opened my eyes to a topic that most women do not want to think or talk about. I was startled
by the statistics and information taught in class. This made me realize why I needed to be there. The course offers
class style instruction and also defense techniques. The R.A.D course taught me several techniques I could use to
get away from a would-be attacker. I encourage all women, no matter your age, to take the course. It may one
day save your life,” said past participant Ashley Turberville.

Due to limited space, reservations are required. To reserve your space at the Rape Aggression Defense
Training or for more information, call 251.928.8133 or email {encode="USABC@usouthal.edu" title="USABC@usouthal.edu"}.
