WASHINGTON (AP) - Mobile Mayor Sam Jones says the atmosphere in
Washington is exciting as the country prepares to make Barack Obama
the nation's 44th President.
Jones is attending the U.S. Conference of Mayors' winter session
and he sees Obama as a promising figure to end the country's
financial crisis.
He said Tuesday the conference of mayors wants a portion of the
proposed $800 billion stimulus package to be distributed to the
cities.
Jones said he wants $1 billion for Mobile alone to fund various
municipal projects.
Mobile's annual budget is about $250 million.
Still, Jones doubts they will get all the requested money.
Jones will not attend the inauguration, but he will get to see the Azalea Trail Maids march in the inaugural parade.
