The Indiana pilot accused of crashing his airplane to fake his death is being held in isolation at the Escambia County jail.
Marcus Schrenker, 38, is under special watch in the infirmary unit of the jail, according to Sgt. Ted Roy of the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
Schrenker was transported to Pensacola Sunday morning after spending five nights in a Tallahassee hospital recovering from a suicide attempt.
Investigators say Schrenker, who is under investigation by Indiana's Secretary of State, bailed out of his airplane over Childersburg, Alabama then alowed his plane to crash in Milton, Florida on January 11th. The US Marshal Service believes Schrenker's plot was an effort to avoid fraud charges involving the three investment companies he owns in Indiana.
In addition to the state fraud charges filed last week in Indiana, Schrenker now faces federal charges for making a phony distress call and intentionally wrecking his airplane.
