WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Jo Bonner of Alabama will be the top
Republican on the House ethics committee in the new Congress,
putting him in the tricky position of overseeing investigations
into fellow lawmakers' conduct.
Bonner said he was honored to be named to the post, while
acknowledging the difficulties of judging one's peers. The Mobile
Republican was first named to the panel in the last Congress, but
was not in leadership.
Bonner, a four-term lawmaker, also sits on the influential House
Appropriations Committee, which writes spending bills. He said
recently he is considering running for governor in 2010.
