NEW YORK (AP) - At least one maker of consumer products is
offering some good news for customers: price cuts.
Clorox's chief executive says the company is rolling back most
of its planned price increases, and says that more cuts are
possible. The range of Clorox products includes bleach, Brita water
filters, Hidden Valley Ranch salad dressing and Fresh Step kitty
litter.
As prices for oil, gas and plastics rose to record levels last
year, most major consumer products companies raised their prices
for a range of staples. But now commodity prices are easing up.
The CEO says Clorox has already rescinded a 10 percent price
hike on Glad trash bags. And many of the increases Clorox planned
for the first part of this year have been abandoned.
Analysts expect other manufacturers to join Clorox in cutting
prices.
