Police Arrest Alleged "Serial" Burglar

Authorities have charged this man with six burglaries in a Theodore neighborhood and he could face charges in more than a dozen crimes.

A flat screen TV is back in its rightful place—Stephen Shewmake’s living room. It's one of dozens of items 20-year-old William Rotter is accused of stealing from this neighborhood along Belwood Drive in Theodore. Shewmake says he's glad to get his stuff back.

“Now we can leave the house and there's still a chance of being burglarized but now we feel safer about leaving our stuff at home,” says Shewmake. Stephen says he went out to lunch three weeks ago. When he came back, he found someone had broken in through the back door. Some neighbors believe the suspect was able to hopscotch through backyards using heavily wooded areas for cover. Rotter has been charged with six counts of burglary. Mobile Police say he may be involved in other burglaries along this street. He was arrested Wednesday morning.

“We received a call, a complaint through 911 officers responded officers responded to the location and were able to , he was hiding in a closet in the residence,” says Mobile Police Corporal Charles Bagsby Jr. Police say Rotter may be involved in crimes dating back to January of last year.
