STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A rape charge against a Mississippi
State tennis player has been dismissed.
Okitbbeha County Justice Court Judge Bernard Crump dismissed the
charge Tuesday without prejudice during a hearing to determine
whether the case against 20-year-old Christopher Richard Doerr, a
junior from London, England, should be presented to a grand jury.
Without prejudice means prosecutors could still file charges
later.
County prosecutor Roy Carpenter declined comment.
Doerr was arrested Nov. 17 after the reported sexual assault of
an MSU coed during a party at an off-campus apartment complex.
Doerr's attorney says there was no evidence to support the rape
charge.
Court records did not allege that force was used in the
incident, but that the victim, also 20, had sexual intercourse with
Doerr under the influence of alcohol.
