JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Veteran University of Mississippi
Chancellor Robert Khayat will retire on June 30.
Khayat announced his retirement on Tuesday. The state College
Board is expected to accept Khayat's request and discuss the
university's transition during a Jan. 15 meeting.
State College Board president Amy Whitten says Khayat is one of
the most effective university leaders she has ever known.
The 70-year-old Khayat has led the Oxford-based campus since
1995. This year, he oversaw preparations for the historic
presidential debate between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican
John McCain.
