INDEPENDENCE, La. (AP) - Three Mississippi residents died when a
single-engine airplane crashed in a wooded area in southeastern
Louisiana.
The Cessna 182, which was flying from Slidell to Marksville went
down about just before midnight Friday in a heavily wooded area
west of Independence.
Sheriff's deputies say the pilot - identified as 39-year-old
Glen Johnson of Gautier, Mississippi - was in contact with flight
controllers in Baton Rouge at the time and did not issue a distress
signal. The sheriff's office received several calls about a plane
crash from area residents.
Also killed in the crash were 39-year-old Tabitha Dolbare of Van
Cleave, Mississippi and her 13-year-old son, Nelson Dolbare.
The cause of the crash had not been determined. Federal
investigators have been dispatched to the scene.
