A student in Santa Rosa County, Florida has been infected with Whooping Cough. Health officials say children are most at risk and it can be fatal for babies under a year old. The Mobile County Health Department's Director of Epidemiology, Melissa Tucker, says the disease is preventable and the best way to protect your family is to make sure your kids are vaccinated, "adults can get it, but, they don't, we don't know we even have it, the symptoms are so mild and we can pass it on to our children, though, if they're not immunized," said Tucker. The Santa Rosa County Health Department says the student was not vaccinated against whooping cough. There is good news, we're told the student is being treated and is okay.
