MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabamians are paying more for groceries
this month.
The Alabama Farmers Federation said the cost of 20 basic market
basket items in Feb. climbed just under 1 percent to a statewide
average of $53.71.
The 29 cent hike from Jan. was blamed in part on higher prices
for vegetables and certain beef products. But the higher prices
were offset by lower prices for dairy and pork products this month.
A regional survey of the state showed the lowest average price
for a market basket was found in northeast Alabama at $51.61. It
was highest in south Alabama at $57.87.
