GAINESVILLE, Florida (AP) - The University of Florida is looking into a security breach that affected one of its computer systems.
Officials in Gainesville say an intruder was able to get into its "Grove" computer system, a system that contained personal information for more than 97,000 people. The files on the system included the names and Social Security numbers of students, faculty and staff who used the system between 1996 and 2009.
The breach was discovered in January during a review. Grove has since been shut down. Investigators can't say whether any files containing private information were accessed.
The school, meanwhile, is trying to contact people who might have been affected, but it says it has no contact information for more than 5,000 people.
