HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - German rocket scientist Konrad Dannenberg, a member of the Wernher von Braun team that helped put man on the moon, has died at a Huntsville rehabilitation center. He was 96.
His wife said he died Monday of natural causes.
Dannenberg had a role in developing the Redstone, Jupiter and
Saturn rockets. The Saturn was the one that put the first American
astronaut on the moon.
With Dannenberg's death, only a half dozen of the original 118
German scientists who came to Huntsville in 1950 with von Braun are
living.
His wife, Jackie Dannenberg, said a public memorial for
Dannenberg will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Davidson Center at
the Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville.
