MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - The son of a former Prichard City Council
president has been sentenced to five years in prison for his
participation in a local drug ring.
The 22-year-old faced a minimum of 10 years in prison but
prosecutors asked U.S. District Judge Kristi DuBose for leniency
with Wayne Maurice Lafitte Jr. because he helped bring down the
ring.
Lafitte admitted to running an enterprise that sold more than
150 kilograms of cocaine in the Mobile area from January 2006 to
January 2008.
Lafitte will get credit for the time he spent in jail since his
arrest in January 2008.
DuBose ordered him to forfeit $100,000 that law enforcement
officials seized and he will spend five years on supervised release
after serving his sentence.
