False Sense Of Security?

False Sense Of Security?

The Annexation lines have been drawn but another battle is beginning.

Another annexation battle is brewing, this time with a business owner in Theodore.
Randy Collins owns a furniture store and a pawn shop along Highway 90.
The area was annexed last year as part of plan to bring in more fire protection.
Collins thinks the city's plan to build a fire station along Bellingrath Road is a bad idea.
He says a busy train track nearby could affect fire fighter response time during an emergency.
But Mobile Fire insists a nearby fire station would help out in that sort of situation. "There's more than one fire truck or rescue truck for that matter that would respond to that area in case of an event. If there's a fire there's going to be multiple units responding to that area just as they are now,"Said Steve Huffman.
"I can't wait twenty minutes if my building is on fire. We got over a billion dollars worth of property up and down this road here and to my knowledge there's only one store on Bellingrath Road,"Said Collins.
The City of Mobile says they have already purchased the lot on Bellingrath Road where the new station will be built. Mobile Fire tells News Five temporary fire units are in place until the new station is ready to go.
