Thank-You From A Soldier

It's story time with private First Class Marshall Joslin. The military man stopped by to say thanks to a room full of 4th graders.

“It was really interesting to see how many people I didn't even know you know were really supporting me wanting me to do well and come home safe,” says Joslin. The soldier got about three dozen cards and letters from 4th graders at Knollwood Christian School in September.

“It really helped out a lot during some hard times over there,” says Joslin. The private says he battled homesickness and Iraqi insurgents during his 14 month tour of duty. He was awarded the Army Achievement medal for helping bring a medic to a wounded solder. He fielded questions on what his service was like.

“Your first thought is to be scared, but you think and adrenaline kicks in and you think something might happen to me or something might happen to my buddy,” says Joslin. The kids say this visit is definitely the highlight of their day and the project taught them a special lesson.

“I learned that little things like cards can really help people out when they need it,” says student David Standifer. Classmates spent some of the day making colorful posters to welcome their military guest.

“To let him know he's not alone, he's got someone for him, if he ever needs something he can come to us,” says young David. PFC Joslin says he read every last letter. He says he would pull them out whenever times got really tough.
