Tire Company Cutting Jobs In Alabama

»  Comments | Post a Comment

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - Declining demand for tires is leading to
job cuts at a major manufacturer in Opelika.
BFGoodrich said it will cut 80 employees at its plant in Lee
County beginning Saturday.
The company said faltering demand for tires, particularly for
passenger cars, prompted the layoffs. It's reducing it work force
in the east Alabama city by almost 10 percent.
The company said Wednesday laid off workers will be eligible for
unemployment benefits, and there's no target date for when they
could return to work.
The job cuts will leave BFGoodrich with about 920 employees at
the Opelika factory.
