HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The defense is nearing the end of its
case in the capital murder trial of Jamal Woods, who is accused in
the shooting deaths of two men at a Huntsville restaurant and the
wounding of two others.
Two of Woods' former high school coaches - Glenn Vickery and
Bart Sessions - testified Wednesday that they were shocked to hear
that Woods had been charged in the shootings at T.G.I. Friday's in
2006.
Sessions said he coached Woods on the football team at Davidson
High School in Mobile until he was expelled because of excessive
absences. Vickery, who's now the coach at Daphne High School, recalled Woods blew up in the principal's office
when he learned he had been expelled. Vickery said while Woods did have a temper, he saw a lot of promise in him.
Woods later graduated from Williamson High in Mobile.
If Woods is convicted of capital murder, he faces the death penalty.
