Riley: Alabama's Economy Ok

Governor Bob Riley visits Foley, tells standing-room only things could be worse on the economic front

Governor Bob Riley brought his message of economic hope to South Baldwin County Monday. The governor spoke to a packed crowd at the Foley Civic Center and outlined his economic recovery plan, a plan that would offer financial incentives to business owners who hire new workers and create new jobs. Riley also told the group the local economy is strong compared to other regions.

"If you look at the unemployment numbers, you're doing better than just about any other part of the state, but that doesn't mean you don't have severe challenges the condos and pieces of real estate down here up for sale right now."

The governor also says his recovery plan would offer incentives to businesses that go "green." Companies that create and research alternative fuel sources would get tax credits and breaks.

"The economy is still strong here," says Riley. "And it's still growing. Alabama has some challenges but not nearly to the the extent of most of the other surrounding states do."
