Church Shooter To Plead Guilty

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The attorney for an out-of-work truck
driver says his client will enter a guilty plea to killing two
people and wounding six others in a Tennessee church.
Fifty-eight-year-old Jim D. Adkisson has a court hearing in
Knoxville on Monday.
His public defender Mark Stephens had planned an insanity
defense. Adkisson is scheduled to stand trial next month.
But Stephens said last week that Adkisson decided to enter a
plea deal to all counts in exchange for a life sentence without
parole.
Police say Adkisson said in a letter that he attacked the
Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church because he hated
liberals and gays.
The shooter fired three deadly blasts into the congregation on
July 27, 2008, during a children's musical performance before
members wrestled him to the ground.
