SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Actor Val Kilmer says he's "just looking
for way to be contributive" and that's got him pondering a run for
governor of New Mexico.
Democrat Bill Richardson's second term ends in 2010 and the
49-year-old Kilmer has called New Mexico home for more than 20
years. If he were to run, it could throw a monkey wrench into the
well-oiled Democratic machine of Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who's
already running for the job.
Kilmer says he hasn't made up his mind whether or not to run.
But he says he has been out and about listening to people. And he
makes a bold prediction, saying -- quote -- "If I run, I'm going
to be the next governor."
Kilmer's screen credits include playing Batman in "Batman
Forever," the brash fighter pilot know as 'Iceman' in "Top Gun,"
and rock icon Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's film, "The Doors."
