TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Powerball did what it was supposed to
in its first month in Florida, but the rest of the state's lottery
offerings paid the price.
Lottery officials said Friday that Powerball sales in January
totaled $50 million, the best debut for the game in any of the 30
states where it's played.
Lotto sales were down over $9 million. Mega Money, Easy Match
and Fantasy 5 dipped by a total of nearly $3 million.
More than $13 million in Powerball prizes was paid to more than
1 million Florida players. Four players won $1 million each by
adding Power Play and matching ll five numbers in the multi-state
game.
And 13,000 Florida retailers who offer the games of chance
collected more than $2.5 million in commissions and bonuses.
