DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - The money troubles of Indiana pilot and
financial manager Marcus Schrenker are getting worse now that an
Alabama judge has ordered him to pay $12 million in a lawsuit.
A judge awarded the judgment Thursday to a Dothan man who sued
after purchasing an airplane from Schrenker, who is accused of
staging a plane crash in an attempt to fake his own death.
Barnett Hudson filed suit claiming Schrenker sold him a damaged
airplane in 2002. Schrenker wrote a letter in December saying he
was broke and wouldn't defend himself.
Schrenker was facing more than $9 million in court judgments and
potential penalties when authorities say he bailed out of his plane
over Alabama last month and let it crash to make it appear he was
dead.
