Alabama's First Black Govnernor?

Congressman Artur Davis is expected to launch his campaign for Governor today

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Congressman Artur Davis is ready to
announce his plans for the 2010 governor's race.
The three-term Democrat has appearances scheduled in Birmingham
and Montgomery on Friday where he is expected to announce he is
running for governor. He will make stops between Saturday and
Monday in Huntsville, Northport and Mobile.
Davis will become the first black person to make a serious bid
for governor of Alabama. Last year he chaired Barack Obama's
presidential campaign in the state. And, like Obama, Davis is a
Harvard-educated lawyer who wants to reach across racial lines for
votes.
Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. and Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks
also are considering running for governor as Democrats.
