A pair of phony utility workers have struck again-- targeting the sixth home in less than a month.
Van Doris Armstrong says two men came to her house Wednesday afternoon claiming to be with the water company. She says the men told her there was a water break in the neighborhood, and they needed to check her faucet.
While one man turned on her hot water, the other wandered around the house perhaps looking for something to steal.
"They talked more like con-people," says Armstrong, who tells News Five the men also went inside her neighbor's house.
No one was hurt in either case, but officials from Mobile Area Water and Sewer Systems want to remind their customers they never go to a home unless the resident has reported a problem.
Barbara Shaw, a spokesperson for the agency, says they only have four quality control staff members who make house calls, and they always wear a uniform, idenfication badge and they drive a marked truck.
Mobile police say at least five of the cases, including Wednesday's, may be connected.
