Sonnette Buzbee, a dispatcher for Mobile Fire and Rescue, is being hailed a hero for her quick thinking and calm demeanor during a frantic 911 call.

On November 28, 2008, panicked parents called 911 reporting their 3 month old daughter was unconcious and not breathing. The father described his little girl saying her lips were blue, her face was purple and she was bleeding from her nose.

Sonnette, who is a mother herself, could feel the parents' pain, but there was no time to let emotion get in the way. She guided the baby's father step-by-step through CPR.

"You're going to pump her chest hard and fast 30 times," Sonnette told the father during the 911 call. "One, two, three, four," she counted.

The father, even through his tears, never stopped following Sonnette's instructions. Three and a half minutes after the call began the baby started crying.

"Any of us could have done it," Sonnette said modestly. "It made me feel good to know that I could give that family a second chance at life."

Mobile Fire and Rescue officials have followed up with the family and they say the baby girl is doing well.

Sonnette was presented a certificate at Tuesday's city council meeting.
