The Salmonella outbreak has some food banks asking for an extra hand.
The Bay Area Food Bank says the peanut butter based food recall has cut down on a third of their production time.
The food bank's executive director says volunteers usually sort through donations to check for damaged goods.
But with hundreds of items being recalled he says they are having to compare everything to a list before they decide to destroy it.
"We're working with volunteers who are generously offering their time and we have to spend more time to get the same amount of work done to get food to people. So it adds to the burden,"Said David Reaney with the Bay Area Food Bank.
The Bay Area Food Bank has already had to destroy nearly 2,000 pounds of food. You can visit their website here. To see a list of recalled items just type in the keyword "peanut" in the search bar at the top of this page.
