GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Urban Meyer has stunned the college football world with his announcement that he is stepping down as coach of the University of Florida football team.

Meyer has been at the pinnacle of the college football world, with the Gators going 56-and-10 with two national championships in his five seasons at the Swamp.

Meyer says he is doing this for health reasons.

He will coach the Gators in their New Year's Day Sugar Bowl matchup against undefeated Cincinnati.

Under Meyer, Florida compiled a school-record 22-game winning streak that ended this month against Alabama in the SEC championship.

Meyer says he consulted with his family, his doctors, school president Bernie Machen and athletic director Jeremy Foley before deciding it is in his best interest to focus on his health and family.
