Mobile County Commissioner Steve Nodine is being investigated by the
Sheriff's Office after marijuana was found in his county issued vehicle.
Sheriff Sam Cochran says Nodine's Ford pickup was taken to the county garage on Virginia Street for maintenance. Around 8:00 a.m., a county employee discovered marijuana in the vehicle.
Cochran says he contacted Nodine late this morning/early this afternoon to let him know he will be questioned about the drugs. The Sheriff's Office wants to know where they came from and who they belong to.
Nodine, who left town for the holidays after the commisioner's meeting, issued the following written statement:
“I have been informed by the Sheriff’s office that a small pill bottle containing a substance believed to be marijuana was found in my county vehicle this morning. The county vehicle was not in my possession and has been at the motor pool all morning for service. I want to be clear that I did not possess marijuana, nor use any marijuana, found in this vehicle. Since first being notified, I have been and will continue to fully cooperate with the Sheriff’s investigation.”
Nodine later told News 5's Tiffany Craig that he offered to give a blood and urine sample the moment Sheriff Cochran told him about the marijuana. But the Sheriff’s Office declined to take him up on his offer.
