Authorities are trying to find out what caused a tragic accident Tuesday that killed an 11 year old boy in Citronelle.
Rescue crews said Daniel Gartman was playing with another boy under an overhanging boulder and mud weighing 84 tons.
They collapsed and trapped him.
Susan Sullivan lives right next door to the boulder and mud that collapsed.
She said, "I knew something like this was going to happen. I knew it was coming down. I just didn't know when. Children play here every day. They would go up under there, they would dig, they loved it here. This is something kids enjoy."
Fire officials said they got a call around 11:30 Tuesday morning about a boy was trapped.
Steve Huffman with the Mobile Fire Department said, "After some equipment from Thyssenkrupp was brought over, they (rescue crews) were able to lift this large rock out of the way and he was found underneath where this rock was. Unfortunately, he did not survive."
Another neighbor, Ronnie Nichols, said, "That nephew of mine, we're talking about it that the other day. We were out feeding deer and said, 'It would be bad if that fell on you and went up under there.' "
Huffman said the rocks and mud "more or less pancaked and slid down this hill."
Neighbors said Gartman has family in the area.
Candice Dixon said, "His father, he works on the boat, and, when he comes home, they come up here and they stay with their dad."
Sullivan said, "This thing should have been taken down years ago. I knew something terrible was going to happen. Unfortunately, it had to be a child there."
The other boy playing with Gartman wasn't hurt.
Authorities are looking into the possiblity that recent rainy weather may have loosened the rocks and mud.
