An argument over a car leads to a police chase through three cities.
Chickasaw Police say Santana Byrd and another woman were fighting over a Mercury on Willow Drive on Sunday. Before police could figure out who owned the car, Byrd took off in it.
She reportedly led police through Chickasaw and into Prichard. The chase ended when Byrd got cornered in a cul-de-sac in Mobile's Toulminville community.
After nearly ramming one patrol car, police fired two shots at her car. One bullet hit the car but it didn't stop the driver.
Police say Byrd took off and then really rammed one of the cruisers.
Sergeant Brad Penton says she thought it was funny. "She was rather humorous about the situation and didn't think it was serious at the time. We, on the other hand, were very concerned about our officers and the citizens impacted by this pursuit."
She is now a "jail Byrd" at Mobile Metro and is charged with everything from reckless endangerment to attempting to elude police and theft.
You see, Byrd wasn't the owner of the car she took off in.
It belongs to her ex-boyfriend.
